Democrat Joe Biden said Friday that he was going to win the US presidency as his lead grew over President Donald Trump in battleground states, although television networks held off from declaring him the victor as officials continued to count votes. "The numbers tell us ... it's a clear and convincing story: We're going to win this race," Biden said.
"As we said on July 19th, the American people will decide this election. And the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House," said Biden campaign spokesman Andrew Bates.
The delay was widely expected, often for reasons specific to individual states, which under the US system each conduct their own polls: States also have diverse deadlines on receiving absentee ballots, especially those coming from the military or other citizens living overseas.
